In the nutrition world, science has proven that fat DOESN’T make you fat.  Slowly but surely, individuals (like you!) have become more aware that fat is actually really good for us! It all comes down to the quality of fat. With the high amount of research studies out there to support the health benefits of quality omega-3 fish oil, people are becoming more health conscious and are starting to add a fish oil supplementation to their daily health regimen.  This is fantastic news!

Not All Fish Oils Are Created Equal + Some Are Fishy On The Quality

  • Lack of Purity: Many fish oils on the market lack purity and contain heavy metals, PCB’s, dioxins and other nasty contaminants, which harm your health big time.  Make sure the company you are purchasing from guarantees purity.
  • Farm Raised: Many fish oils on the market use farm raised fish instead of wild ocean fish.  Farm raised fish have a completely different fat content and quality.   Make sure when shopping you choose wild ocean fish from a capsule, as wild ocean fish are going to give you the absolute best quality.
  • Poor Manufacturing Processes: Many fish oils on the market don’t use quality manufacturing processes and the oils are actually rancid causing more harm than good to your body and a ton of inflammation.  Many companies use a heating process to extract the oil, when the oil is heated it becomes rancid, also known as oxidative stress and then when you consume the oil it creates damage in the body.  This isn’t your fault! Unfortunately, many companies don’t educate their consumers on this and it’s total health washing and profits are their main concern! Instead, you want to choose a fish oil that says cold pressed manufacturing technique that is properly prepared so it doesn’t go rancid and that you’re getting all the juicy health benefits of the fish oil. 
  • Lack of EPA + DHA: Many fish oils on the market contain the amount of fish oil in millagrams but doesn’t list the EPA and DHA amounts. You want to make sure on the label it says the specific number of milligrams of EPA and DHA, as these are the medicinal properties. 
  • Liquid Form: Many fish oils come in liquid form.  There are studies that have proven liquid form fish oil even when kept in the fridge goes rancid within 30 days.  To be safe, choose a fish oil that comes in capsule form as these have been proven to last much longer and avoid the process of going rancid. 
  • Poor Type of Fish: To choose a fish with the lowest amount of contaminants and the best medicinal properties it's best to choose a fish-oil supplement made from small, oily fish like anchovy or sardines.
